Hey Sis,
Welcome to our blog! Here you will find great tips and resources that will help you on your self-care & hair journey.
Let's begin with the fundamentals. Shall we...Have you ever asked yourself these questions:
- How do you take care of hair extensions?
- How to properly care for hair extensions at home?
- How to wash or detangle your hair extensions?
- What products should you use?
A lot of us buy hair extensions, but do not provide the proper care that they need.
Sis, if that's you (you are not alone), here's some tips to help you keep your Afro hair extensions flawless at home:
- Wash the hair extensions or wig with a sulfate & alcohol free moisturizing shampoo & conditioner.
- Apply a rich moisturizing deep conditioner or hair mask through out the hair to prevent frizz & dryness. Leave it in at least for 20 minutes or more.
- Always detangle the hair using water & a moisturizer product (leave-in conditioner) in it. For best results detangle the hair while under running water with a detangling brush, a wide toothed comb or fingers.
- Be sure to comb the hair from ends and working your way up to the roots gently, section by section, to avoid tangling.
- Do not massage or scrub the hair.
- Never use a fine comb on the hair or try to detangle it while it’s dry to avoid tension & excessive shedding. You don’t want to pull out some of theses precious strands of hair.
- Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
- Let the hair air dry.
- Never sleep with the hair wet. Use a satin or silk bonnet or scarf to sleep for protection.
- On a daily basis use water & a moisturizer that define curls before styling.
- Apply a lightweight oil or an alcohol-free hair serum for shine as needed.
- Do not use excessive oils or other products on Kinky, Curly or Coily hair, it will cause matting.
- Minimise heat damage: Use a heat protector & turn down the temperature of your heated tools.
- Make sure to handle the hair with care. Treat it as your own.
The better care you’ll give the hair extensions the longer it will last.
